Disney Blog Hop for Rett Sydrome Awareness - October 27 & 28

Blog Hop Dates: October 27th - 28th

Blog Theme: Disney
October is also Rett Syndrome Awareness Month.

What exactly is Rett Syndrome you may ask? I am sure there are not that many people that have heard of it.

Rett Syndrome is a genetic neurological disorder that occurs almost exclusively in females and becomes apparent after 6-18 months of early normal development.   It results in a regression that leads to lifelong impairments.

Those inflicted with this disorder have multiple dysfunctions:

speech is lost, seizures develop and scoliosis occurs, many develop irregular breathing patterns, and more than half of the girls and women lose their ability to walk.

Those diagnosed with Rett Syndrome require maximum assistance with even the most basic daily activities. The hallmark sign of Rett Syndrome is near constant repetitive hand movements while awake.

Your participation is more than welcome, the more that we can make aware of this disorder the better. More than normal this disorder is misdiagnosed and when done so the child is being treated for a disorder that they do not have and this can go on for months to years of having the wrong treatment until you speak loudly enough for them to retest.
